Ways of Maintaining Wallpaper and Wallcovering

When wallpapers are installed, they can catch a lot of daily dust. To maintain the look, beauty and durability of them, they should be kept clean. Before cleaning the wallpaper during home remodelling, it is important for you to know what kind of wallpaper you have at home.

Several types are available in the market, and you need to be very gentle to keep them from tearing.

While home remodelling, for the vinyl based wallpapers, you can wash and clean them at home unless they are majorly damaged as they are easy to maintain. You can dry dust them with a dry sponge or electrostatic dust cloth. If you need to clean the whole wallpaper during home remodelling, you can buy cleaning products available for this particular purpose from the market.

You can also make your cleaning solution by adding a few drops of hair shampoo to water. Use a sponge or clean cloth to wipe the wallpapers in one direction, preferably in vertical seams, for perfect results. Do not use scrub pads as they may tear the paper and always squeeze out the excess solution so that the paper does not get too wet. Do not use dirty cloth because it will leave dirt on the wallpaper. Always use water at room temperature. The water should never be hot. After washing, wipe the wall with a terry-cloth towel and dry it immediately after rinsing.

Otherwise, the wallpaper may become too wet which will ultimately result in tearing.

For removing stubborn stains like crayons, markers and pencil marks, you can use WD-4. Just spray the solution on the washing cloth and gently rub the spot until it is gone. For greasy spots, you can rub talcum powder on them. After 10-15 minutes, the powder will settle on the wallpaper, and you can quickly wipe it away with a dry cloth.

For non-woven wallpapers, professional help is highly recommended during home remodelling. They are not easy to clean by yourself.
